Technical. Fascinating stories, great backgrounds

This is an incredible reference guide.

I had to own this book!

I know I wrote the book !
This book is a textbook, but also aimed at the
general scientific reader, and describes the physics
that underpins environmental processes. these incluce
global warming, ozone depletion, energy use and
prospects for cleaner energy, weather (including
cloud physics) and climate and the physics of soils.

The writing-book that's bigger inside than outside.

Wonderful Book!

The Most Fascinating Book I Have Ever Readinterested in World War II era history. It
tells a realistic story via letters from one
pen pal to another, a concept that has
escaped Hollywood for over 50 years. However,
it won't be long before this book is a movie,
too.
Of course, I could be biased. The woman to
whom the letters are addressed is my very own
great aunt Ruth, perhaps the kindest woman to
ever walk the face of the earth.

Not just another alphabet bookLobster, of course, indicates Maine and so the author takes us through the entire alphabet with animals, places, or ideas associated with that state. On each page is a simple rhyme concerning the word starts with that letter. On the side of the page is more information, perhaps scientific or historical. I learned several things I did not know. The illustrations are not only beautiful, but technically accurate as well. One must really see this book to appreciate it.
Interestingly, at no time does it seem that the author had to reach to come up with a word for any given letter. Quick: what would you think of for the Letter U? Why the University of Maine, naturally -
The University of Maine starts with U Here, students called "Black Bears" dress in blue. A University is a place where big kids go to learn about everything they should know.
This concept could easily be used as a family game while vacationing. It almost makes me wish my children were younger and still traveled with us.
I heartily recommend this book and as a teacher I would like to see something just like it for each state in the Union.

Best text on labor economics and labor relations
The papers cover a variety of taxonomic classes. I was intrigued by Hardie et al description of odour plumes "as cooked spaghetti pouring out of a chimney" .. when describing, for example, fruit fly orienting to an odor source. Dingle's description of wing polymorphism of the soapberry bug was a fascinating exploration of selection of phenotypes. Franks description of self organization of army ant swarm raids was a pure joy.
The technology ranged from Srygley and Oliveira tracking butterflies by boat in Panama, to Riley and Osborne's use of harmonic radar to track foraging bumblebees. Also impressive was Drake et al description of network of data gathering light traps, insect monitoring radar, and GIS habitat assessment, to track locust movement in Australia. Overall a good technical collection.
